Cauvery water protests disrupt Siddharth’s film event in Bengaluru; Prakash Raj apologises

Prakash Raj took to X (formerly Twitter) to express his remorse. He shared a video from the event and wrote, “Instead of questioning all the political parties and its leaders for failing to solve this decades-old issue... Instead of questioning the useless parliamentarians who are not pressuring the center to intervene... Troubling the common man and artists like this cannot be accepted. As a Kannadiga, on behalf of Kannadigas, I apologize to #Siddharth. #justasking. (sic)”
The incident occurred in Bengaluru when Siddharth was in the middle of a promotional event for his new film, Chithha. A group of pro-Karnataka protesters barged into the hall and disrupted the event by raising slogans and insisting that the actor stop the event.
Their reasoning was that it was an inopportune time for Siddharth to be promoting his film, given the ongoing dispute between Tamil Nadu and Karnataka regarding the sharing of Cauvery River water. Reports suggested that the protesters were affiliated with Karnataka Rakshana Vedike Swabhimani Sene.
The Cauvery water-sharing dispute has reignited tensions between factions in Karnataka and Tamil Nadu following a directive from the Cauvery Water Regulation Committee (CWRC). The committee instructed Karnataka to ensure the release of 3,000 cusecs of Cauvery water at Biligundlu from September 28 to October 15, sparking renewed debate and controversy.
Chithha, written and directed by SU Arun Kumar, is a Tamil film featuring Siddharth and Nimisha Sajayan. The film revolves around the relationship between an uncle and his niece and was produced by Siddharth Edagi Entertainment. It was released on Thursday and has garnered predominantly positive reviews.
