Centre insulted martyrdom of 700 farmers by not giving legal status to MSP: Congress

New Delhi: Congress on Friday condemned the BJP-led NDA government for its betrayal of farmers by refusing to grant legal status to the Minimum Support Price and fix the MSP on C2+50 percent of the input costs formula.

Addressing the media persons, party general secretary and spokesperson Randeep Singh Surjewala said the union Agriculture Minister by refusing the legal guarantee on MSP had committed a betrayal with 72 crore farmers of the country. ā€œThis will be remembered as the black day in history regarding farmersā€™ welfareā€, he remarked.

Surjewala said the government had insulted the martyrdom of 700 farmers who had laid down their lives in the struggle to get a legal guarantee for the MSP.

The Congress MP said the countdown of the BJP-led government had already started, as no government that had confronted farmers and farm laborers and betrayed them had survived long.

Surjewala said that the BJP had not provided a legal guarantee on MSP and had returned to the Prime Ministerā€™s promise of fixing the MSP on C2+50 percent of the input costs formula.
