Chandrayaan-3: Ahead of launch, ISRO scientists visit Tirupati’s Lord Venkateswara temple; carry replica

Tirumala: A day before the launch of Chandrayaan-3, a team of Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) scientists visited Lord Venkateswara Swamy temple in Tirupati to offer prayers.

The scientists carried a miniature model of the rocket and spacecraft and sought blessings.

It has been an old tradition of ISRO to seek the blessings of the deity ahead of satellite launches in Sriharikota.

ISRO chairman S Somnath offered prayers at the Chengalamma temple in Sullurpeta in Tirupati.

Countdown begins

Countdown has begun for the big day. The launch of Chandrayaan-3 by LVM3 rocket is scheduled at 2.35 pm on Friday at Satish Dhawan Space Centre (SDSC), Sriharikota, in Andhra Pradesh.

The team completed the ‘launch rehearsal’ for Chandrayaan-3.

Updating on the mission, ISRO said that the propellant filling is in progress. The Mission Readiness Review for the launch has already been completed, and the board has authorized the launch.

Third Lunar Mission

The Chandrayaan-3, which will be India’s third lunar mission, consists of an indigenous lander module (LM), propulsion module (PM), and a rover to develop and demonstrate new technologies required for interplanetary missions.

According to ISRO, the lander has the capability to soft land at a specified lunar site and deploy the rover, which will carry out in-situ chemical analysis of the lunar surface during its mobility. The Lander and the Rover have scientific payloads to carry out experiments on the lunar surface.

ISRO Chairman S Somnath in an earlier announcement said that the Chandrayaan-3’s landing is scheduled for August 23-24.

“If the launch takes place on that day then we will be ready for landing on the moon possibly by the last week of August. The date (landing date) is decided when there is sunrise on the moon. When we are landing, sunlight must be there. So the landing will be on August 23 or 24,” he said.

Citizens can watch the launch live at Sriharikota

ISRO said people can witness the launch from the Launch View Gallery at SDSC-SHAR, Sriharikota.

Interested individuals can register at the registration link -https://lvg.shar.gov.in/VSCREGISTRATION/index.jsp

The launch-view gallery at the Sriharikota has a capacity of 5,000 people, offering a clear view of the two launchpads of the Sriharikota Range. The visitors can view the launch from this gallery in real time with their naked eyes. Large screens are also placed to visually explain the various intricacies of launchers and satellites.

Launch View Gallery

The Space Port of India naturally attracts visitors to witness the launch activities and cheer for the pride of our Nation. Launch view gallery would allow thousands of viewers to witness the launch.
