Hyderabad: Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy has urged Maoist leaders in hiding to shun violence and return to the mainstream.

Hailing the police for their bravery, sacrifice and service to society, the chief minister made the appeal while addressing the Police Commemoration Day programme held at the Goshamahal Police Grounds on Tuesday.

Appeal for peace

Reiterating his call for peace, the Chief Minister appealed to Maoist leaders still underground to abandon armed struggle and join the democratic mainstream.

“Peace prevails in Telangana today due to the relentless efforts of the police. Many Maoist leaders have already surrendered and are now living with dignity. I urge others to follow suit and take part in the nation’s progress,” he said.

‘Police symbolise trust and assurance’

CM Revanth Reddy said the word ‘Police’ itself stands for trust, courage and assurance to the public. “While blood is being shed on one side, many heroes have sacrificed their lives for our protection. It is our duty to remember and honour these martyrs,” he remarked.

He paid rich tributes to the 191 police personnel across the country, including six from Telangana, who laid down their lives in the line of duty this year.

The Chief Minister specifically remembered Greyhounds commandos T Sandeep, V Sridhar, N Pawan Kalyan; Assistant Commandant Banothu Jawaharlal; Constable B Saidu of Nalgonda; and CCS Constable Empalli Pramod Kumar of Nizamabad.

Comprehensive aid for Constable Pramod’s family

CM Revanth announced a comprehensive package for the family of Constable Empalli Pramod Kumar, who was recently martyred in the line of duty.

The family will receive Rs 1 crore ex gratia, continuation of salary till retirement, a government job for one family member, 300 sq yards of housing land, and Rs 16 lakh from the Police Welfare Fund.

He added that land allotments have also been made to families of 33 policemen who lost their lives in the 2008 Maoist attack in Orissa.

Police achievements and use of technology

The Chief Minister highlighted the Telangana Police’s consistent performance, noting that the department has topped the India Justice Report 2025 and received appreciation from the Ministry of External Affairs for efficient passport verification.

CM Revanth credited these accomplishments to the force’s technological innovation and commitment to duty. He also praised the Cyber Security Bureau, led by a DGP-rank officer, for tackling interstate cybercrimes effectively.

He lauded the ‘Eagle’ (Elite Action Group for Drug Law Enforcement) wing for its strong role in curbing drug trafficking, affirming the government’s resolve to make Telangana a drug-free state.

Women officers in leadership roles

CM Revanth appreciated the government’s decision to appoint women IPS officers to head key divisions, including the Police Academy, SIB, ACB, CID, Vigilance, CCS and the Cyber Security Bureau. He said such appointments reflect Telangana’s commitment to gender inclusion and professional excellence in policing.

Recruitment and welfare measures

Highlighting the government’s welfare initiatives, the Chief Minister said 16,000 constables and sub-inspectors have been recruited to strengthen the force. Compensation for police martyrs has been enhanced up to Rs 2 crore, depending on rank.

He also announced the establishment of the Young India Police School at Manchirevu, Ranga Reddy district, where 50 per cent of the seats will be reserved for children of police personnel.

Sports icons bring glory to Telangana Police

The Chief Minister said the appointment of Olympian boxer Nikhat Zareen and international cricketer Mohammed Siraj as Deputy Superintendents of Police (DSPs) has brought immense pride to the Telangana Police and inspired young people across the state.

Call for ethical, community-oriented policing

Emphasising transparency, accountability and humane conduct, CM Revanth urged police officers to adopt community-based policing and handle democratic protests with sensitivity.

“The sacrifices of police martyrs are priceless. The government will always stand by their families,” he assured.

Tributes and book release

On the occasion, the Chief Minister released a book titled ‘Amarulu Varu’, published by Suraksha Publications, and met with the families of police martyrs.
