CM Revanth orders audit of all Telangana dams and irrigation structures to assess design, safety

Hyderabad: Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy directed officials to undertake a comprehensive, project-wise study of all irrigation and dam structures in Telangana to assess their design integrity, structural safety and operational performance.
Emphasising the importance of data-driven governance, the Chief Minister said the evaluation must include technical, administrative and safety aspects of each project to ensure long-term sustainability and optimal water management.
Review of dam safety and Centre’s communication
The Chief Minister held a high-level review meeting with Irrigation Minister N Uttam Kumar Reddy to discuss a recent letter from Union Jal Shakti Minister CR Patil on the Comprehensive Dam Safety Evaluation (CDSE).
CM Revanth directed officials to take note of the issues raised by the Centre and to prepare status reports on all major and medium dams in compliance with CDSE guidelines.
Inspection of key barrages
During the review, the Chief Minister examined the current condition of the Sundilla, Annaram and Medigadda barrages.
He asked officials to draw up detailed plans for required repairs and ensure that construction agencies responsible for these structures are held accountable for maintenance and safety lapses.
Follow-up review in November
CM Revanth announced that a follow-up review meeting will be held in the second week of November, after submission of detailed project-wise reports. The findings will serve as the basis for further decisions on rehabilitation, strengthening and modernisation of irrigation infrastructure.
Tummidihatti–Sundilla water transfer plan
As part of the irrigation development roadmap, the Chief Minister also directed officials to prepare plans for transferring 80 TMC of water from Tummidihatti to Sundilla, which will enhance irrigation potential across northern Telangana.
The feasibility and integration of the Tummidihatti project with existing systems were also discussed.
Focus on Adilabad region
CM Revanth underlined that the new proposals should aim to provide irrigation and drinking water to the undivided Adilabad district. He asked departments to utilise existing infrastructure and pending works to speed up implementation and reduce costs.
Revival of Sundilla Barrage for Yellampalli Link
The Chief Minister instructed officials to repair and restore the Sundilla barrage to facilitate water transfer to the Sripada Yellampalli project. He directed them to prepare cost estimates and execution timelines for the proposed works on priority.
