Curfew imposed in Haryanas violence-hit Nuh district

Chandigarh/Gurugram: Curfew is imposed in Haryana’s Nuh district as two home guards killed and a and mosque set ablaze in the Sector 57 area of Gurugram.

Violence erupted over an attempt to stop a Vishva Hindu Parishad procession in the neighbouring Nuh district and it spread to Gurugram, police here said

Several people have been injured in the violence.

Curfew in Nuh district

Curfew has been clamped on Nuh district, Haryana Home Minister Anil Vij said on Tuesday. The situation in Nuh continues to be tense. However, there were no reports of any fresh violence on Tuesday. Security has been beefed up in Nuh and other areas, officials said.

Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar on Monday said the "strictest action" will be taken against those responsible for the incident.

"Today's incident is unfortunate. I appeal to all the people to maintain peace in the state. The guilty will not be spared at any cost, and the strictest action will be taken against them," the chief minister said in a tweet in Hindi.

Three dead

Three people have died in the violence that erupted in Nuh district.

According to the police, the mob reached the Anjuman Masjid in Sector 57 after midnight. Some people in the crowd opened fire at the people present in the mosque and also set it on fire.

The news of violence led to a sharp reaction as people came out in anger as they saw the mosque was set on fire. In Sohna too, there were clashes with shops and vehicles set on fire.

Both Nuh and Sohna continue to remain tense. There are no reports of any fresh violence.

Police and paramilitary forces have been deployed in large numbers in Nuh and the other affected areas, the police said.
