Hyderabad: Prince Rahim Al-Hussaini Aga Khan V has been named as 50th hereditary Imam of Shia Ismaili Muslims.

This follows the unsealing of the Will of his late father, Prince Karim Al-Hussaini Aga Khan IV.

Eighty-eight-year-old Prince Karim Aga Khan died in Lisbon, Portugal.

Aga Khan was one of the most revered figures in India. The Shia Ismaili Muslim community is spread in Mumbai, Hyderabad, and parts of Gujarat.

Hyderabad has a major connection with the Aga Khan family. The only Aga Khan Academy is housed near Shamshabad airport. Aga Khan Trust for Culture played a major role in the restoration of Qutub Shahi Tombs.

The 50th Imam Prince Rahim Aga Khan visited Hyderabad on July 27, 2024, at the Aga Khan Academy.

Prince Rahim Aga Khan

The eldest son of Prince Karim Aga Khan has been designated by his father to take the mantle of the Shia Ismaili Muslims in the world.

Rahim Aga Khan was born on October 12th, 1971. Educated at Phillips Academy Andover and graduated in 1995 from Brown University with a Bachelor of Arts in Comparative Literature. Rahim Aga Khan has two sons.




He has been serving on the board of Aga Khan Development Network which has taken over the work of restoring the heritage monuments in Hyderabad and Delhi in India.

The monuments during the Mughal era are being restored by AKDN across Asia.

He is also closely following the work of The Institute of Ismaili Studies and the Ismaili communityā€™s social governance of institutions.

Chairman of the Environment and Climate Committee of AKDN, Prince Rahim has been on the forefront to take up projects to protect the environment and mitigate the effects of climate change.

With a population of 12 to 15 million, Ismailis live in over 35 countries. The Ismailis in India are mostly into business.
