Hyderabad: The Election Commission of India on 23 January announced the launch of the e-EPIC (Electronic Electoral Photo Identity Card) programme on 25 January, the National Voters Day.

e-EPIC is a non-editable secure portable document format (PDF) version of the EPIC and will have a secured QR code with image and demographics like serial number, part number, etc. e-EPIC can be downloaded on a mobile or a computer and can be digitally stored. This is in addition to physical IDs being issued for fresh registration.

A voter can store the card on his/her mobile phone, upload it as a PDF on Digilocker, or print it and laminate it.

How to download e-EPIC?

A voter can download e‐EPIC from Voter Portal or Voter Helpline mobile app or NVSP.

Who is eligible for e-EPIC?

All general voters who have valid EPIC number are eligible for e-EPIC. All new electors who registered during special summary revision 2021 (i.e. those who applied during November‐December 2020) and who provided their mobile number while applying will get an SMS. They can download e-EPIC from 25 to 31 January 2021. Other general voters can download e-EPIC from 1 February 2021.

Voters who have lost their EPIC or don't have EPIC can search their name in the electoral roll by visiting http://voterportal.eci.gov.in/ or https://electoralsearch.in/. After getting the EPIC, they can note their EPIC number and then download e‐EPIC.

People who don't have EPIC but have form-6 reference number can use the form reference number to download e-EPIC.

Using e-EPIC

e-EPIC will have a special significance in the upcoming polls in Assam, Kerala, Puducherry, Tamil Nadu, and West Bengal. A person can download and print the e-EPIC and show it as proof of identity at the polling station.

Steps to download e-EPIC

A voter can download e-EPIC from http://voterportal.eci.gov.in/ or https://nvsp.in/ or Voter Helpline Mobile App by following these steps:

- Register/Login to Voter Portal.

- From the menu, click on 'Download e-EPIC'.

- Enter the EPIC number or form reference number.

- Verify with OTP sent on registered mobile number (if mobile number registered with Eroll)

- Click on Download e-EPIC.

- If the mobile number is not registered in Eroll, click on e-KYC to complete the KYC.

- Pass the face liveness verification.

- Update mobile number to complete KYC.

- Download e-EPIC

A voter can also download e-EPIC using Voter Helpline mobile app (Android/iOS).

eKYC and mobile number

eKYC is Iiveliness check with random body movements and involves capturing a live photo of the person in real-time and comparing it with the photo used in EPIC data. It requires a mobile phone/tab with camera or laptop/desktop with webcam.

If the eKYC fails, the voter can visit the ERO office along with a photo ID and update their mobile number.

If a voter's mobile is not registered in ERoll or has a different mobile number, a voter can do eKYC to update mobile number and download the e-EPIC. Also, if each member of a family is linked to the same mobile number, they can do eKYC with the same mobile number and download e-EPIC.
