From RRR to LB Nagar-Malkapur flyover: Komatireddy urges Centre to fast-track key Telangana projects
New Delhi: To push for several national highway projects, Telangana Roads and Buildings Minister Komatireddy Venkat Reddy held a meeting with Union Minister for Surface Transport Nitin Gadkari in Delhi.
Here are the key discussions done during the meeting:
1. Hyderabad-Vijayawada Highway (NH-65)
During the discussion, Minister Venkat Reddy highlighted the urgent need to address the high number of accidents on this highway, which he called ‘the Death Road.’
He cited a recent tragic accident on July 27, where two DSPs from Andhra Pradesh lost their lives, a detail that reportedly shocked Gadkari.
Venkat Reddy requested that the road be widened from four to six lanes, specifically from Malkapur to Vijayawada (Amaravati), and that service roads be constructed.
Gadkari assured the minister that the expansion of NH-65 would be approved in a finance meeting scheduled for August 15. Following this, estimates would be prepared, and tenders would be issued promptly.
2. Regional Ring Road (RRR)
Minister Venkat Reddy updated Gadkari on the progress of the Regional Ring Road (RRR) project, noting that land acquisition for the northern part (Sangareddy to Choutuppal) has been completed. He urged the Union Minister to initiate work on this section as soon as possible.
The minister also explained that the RRR, initially planned as a four-lane road, is being modified to a six-lane design to accommodate future needs. He requested that work on the northern part begin within the next three months with the revised estimate.
Additionally, he stressed the importance of starting work on the southern part of the RRR simultaneously on a war footing, as it’s being developed as an industrial corridor. He warned that delays could increase land acquisition costs and create project difficulties. Gadkari responded positively, promising to expedite the process once the final alignment proposals are submitted.
3. LB Nagar-Malkapur Elevated Corridor
To ease traffic congestion, the minister proposed constructing a 5.5-kilometre double-decker elevated corridor from Chintalkunta checkpost to Hayatnagar and the All India Radio Station, similar to one in Nagpur.
He advocated for this instead of the originally planned Vehicle Underpasses (VUPs), which would have created serious difficulties for residents.
Gadkari agreed to this request, stating that he would give his immediate approval once the detailed proposals are submitted.
Other Key Projects
Hyderabad-Srisailam Road (NH-765): The minister requested an elevated corridor for the section of the road that passes through the Tiger Reserve. This elevated design would not only protect wildlife but also shorten the road by four kilometres. Gadkari assured Venkat Reddy that he would grant the necessary alignment approval and sanction.
Hyderabad-Manneguda Road: Venkat Reddy requested an accelerated resolution of ongoing issues with the National Green Tribunal and for a contractor to be convinced to complete the work promptly. Gadkari said he would review the issues and act quickly.
