GST collections: Telangana records 14% growth to ₹4,125 Cr in Feb; Andhra 5.45% to ₹3,061 Cr

Hyderabad/Amaravati: Telangana and Andhra Pradesh reported healthy growth in Goods and Services Tax (GST) collections in February.
Telangana registered a sharp 14% year-on-year rise, while Andhra Pradesh recorded 5.45% jump in February.
The figures, released by the Union Finance Ministry and the Andhra Pradesh Commercial Taxes Department, reflect steady revenue momentum in both States amid broader national growth.
Nationally, gross GST collections in February stood at Rs 1,83,609 crore, marking an 8.1% increase over Rs 1,69,779 crore collected in the same month last year. After refunds, net collections reached Rs 1,61,278 crore, up 7.9%.
Telangana outperforms national average
Telangana’s GST collections rose to Rs 4,125 crore in February, compared to Rs 3,619 crore in February last year, registering a robust 14% growth, well above the national average of 8.1%.
During the first 11 months of the 2025–26 financial year, the State received Rs 42,182 crore after SGST settlements, reflecting a 5% increase over the corresponding period last year.
The strong growth underscores sustained commercial activity and improved tax compliance across sectors, officials said.
Andhra Pradesh logs record February net GST
Andhra Pradesh recorded its highest-ever net GST collections for February at Rs 3,061 crore in 2026, registering a 5.45% growth over February 2025.
The increase came despite reductions in tax rates on select consumer goods and the withdrawal of GST on life and medical insurance under GST 2.0 reforms.
Gross GST collections (excluding cess) stood at Rs 3,562 crore, nearly on par with Rs 3,569 crore recorded in February last year, while net collections showed steady improvement.
For 11 consecutive months from April to February, net GST revenues in the State have surpassed collections recorded during the same period in the previous financial year.

According to the State Commercial Taxes Department:
SGST collections: Rs 1,251 crore (up 2.96%)
IGST settlement: Rs 1,810 crore (up 7.24%)
Petroleum VAT: Rs 1,442 crore (up 3.06%)
Professional tax: Rs 43 crore (up 31.97%)
Cumulative total revenue collections across sectors from April to February 2026 stood at Rs 48,854 crore, compared to Rs 46,629 crore in the corresponding period last year, an overall growth of 4.77%.
Compliance measures drive growth
Chief Commissioner of State Tax Babu Ahmed has attributed the improved performance to targeted enforcement and administrative reforms, including AI-based data analytics to detect anomalies in input tax credit claims, stricter return filing enforcement, reversal of ineligible IGST credits, and proactive recovery measures against chronic defaulters.
Performance-based deployment of officers in high-revenue jurisdictions and enhanced monitoring mechanisms also contributed to improved compliance.
Regional comparison
Andhra Pradesh’s cumulative growth of 5.86% during the current financial year outpaced several southern States, including Karnataka (5.70%), Telangana (4.57%), Tamil Nadu (3.10%), and Kerala (2.95%). Odisha, in contrast, recorded a decline of 8.18%.
The February performance signals a stable and upward fiscal trajectory for both Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, with Telangana leading in year-on-year monthly growth and Andhra Pradesh demonstrating resilience through consistent revenue expansion despite tax rationalisation measures, he said.
