Indian Army is strong, the government is weak: Owaisi condemns Modis inaction over China

Hyderabad: Narendra Modi-led BJP government is running away from a debate in the Parliament on the LAC issue and Chinese transgressions along the border, All-India Majlis e Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) president Asaduddin Owaisi said on Monday.

The proceedings in the Parliament imply that the Opposition is largely united on the issue and is demanding a debate, he added.

Mr. Owaisi said that Mr. Modi has to show strong political leadership and assured that since the issue concerns the sovereignty and security of the country, the nation will stand with the Union government.

The AIMIM MP strongly condemned Mr. Modi's inaction over China and said the Indian Army is always strong but the government is weak.

Mr. Owaisi, while talking to the media at the AIMIM headquarters in Darussalam, slammed Mr. Modi and said he has to show his "56-inch chest" as he claimed. He alleged the government is telling half-truths and that the Centre doesn't want to show the people what is happening in the LAC.

He asked why the government is running away from a debate and said the government should at least call for an all-party meeting and listen to the apprehensions of political parties. He also said the PM is giving false statements on LAC and shaking hands with China. The Hyderabadi parliamentarian said, "We have to use tough language which they understand."

Responding to questions from the media, he said this was not the first time China had tried to enter LAC. There have been reports that more than one face-off happened between the Indian and Chinese armies in Arunachal Pradesh in the recent past, he added.
