Opposition leaders targeted, farmers arrested under CM Naidu’s poor governance says Jagan
Tadepalli: YSRCP chief YS Jagan Mohan Reddy alleged that chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu’s ‘growing impatience and fear of failure in governance are pushing him towards diversionary tactics and filing false cases against opposition leaders.’
Speaking to the media in Tadepalli on Thursday, Jagan said the overwhelming public support during his recent tours is clear evidence of the mounting anti-incumbency just one year into the new government’s tenure.
‘Using forced confessions to frame YSRCP leaders’
“Chandrababu is behaving like a dictator, misusing police forces to silence dissent and target political opponents,” Jagan said. “His government’s pattern is clear — pick up lower-level individuals, coerce confessions from them, and use those statements to frame prominent YSRCP leaders. But people can see through this political drama.”
Referring to the public response on ‘Betrayal Day,’ Jagan said it reflects growing dissatisfaction as none of the ‘Super Six’ promises made by the ruling alliance have been fulfilled: “The law and order situation is worsening, and false cases are being used as a tool to harass those who speak up.”
He recounted the curfew-like conditions during his visit to Sattenapalli to console a bereaved family, pointing out that the opposition leader, merely meeting the public, is being treated as a threat. “People are coming out in large numbers because they are frustrated and are turning to YSRCP for hope,” he said.
‘Cases filed against farmers’
Jagan also spoke about the disruption during his Podili visit, where, despite heavy restrictions and attempted interference by a few TDP workers, a massive gathering of farmers remained peaceful. “Shockingly, cases were filed against farmers, not those who tried to incite violence,” he said.
“There is intense repression in the State. People are showing their discontent by participating in our programmes with renewed energy,” he added.
He further alleged that YSRCP leaders are being jailed based on coerced confessions from minor individuals.
“This is exactly how leaders like Chevireddy Bhaskar Reddy, Vallabhaneni Vamsi, Dhanunjaya Reddy, Krishnamohan Reddy, Raj Kasireddy and Nandigama Suresh were booked, and now they are trying to implicate Peddireddy Ramachandra Reddy and PV Mithun Reddy,” he said. Jagan mentioned that Bhaskar Reddy’s gunman had approached the court with evidence of torture, underscoring the serious nature of these developments.
‘What about welfare programmes?’
Referring to the liquor case, Jagan said, “Even the Supreme Court had to intervene and grant bail to Kommineni Srinivasa Rao due to the arbitrary manner of his arrest. If this is the case, what about the TDP workers who attacked Sakshi's offices at various locations? Why no action against them?”
He accused Chandrababu Naidu of betraying women and other communities by failing to implement flagship welfare schemes like Stri Nidhi, Talliki Vandanam, free bus travel, the Deepam scheme and others—even after a year in power. “Atrocities against women are increasing, but the government neither registers complaints nor initiates investigations. It took massive social media outrage for Chandrababu to react to the Kuppam incident.”
On the plight of farmers, Jagan said many are not even receiving the Minimum Support Price (MSP) for crops, with paddy being sold at rates Rs 300 below MSP. “At least five farmers have died by suicide, but the government remains indifferent. When questioned, the response is to suppress the Opposition,” he said.
Criticising the financial decisions of the new government, Jagan said, “In just one month, Chandrababu’s government has borrowed more than what YSRCP did over the years. NMDS assets have been pledged for bonds, and private players are being given access to public funds—something never done before.”
