Hyderabad: Minister for Irrigation N Uttam Kumar Reddy will personally appear before the Krishna Tribunal-2 to present arguments on behalf of Telangana regarding the injustice being done to the state in the Krishna water allocation.

Uttam made it clear that the government will stand behind the team of advocates who are arguing on behalf of the state in the courts for Telangana's allocation of water in the Krishna and Godavari reservoirs.

The minister held a special review meeting with Irrigation Department officials and a group of advocates at the Jalasoudha, the central office of the Irrigation Department here.

Review earlier arguments, the meeting thoroughly discussed the issues to be raised before the tribunal on April 15 and 16. The government also formulated an advanced strategy.

Andhra Pradesh government's stance on Krishna reservoirs after the bifurcation of erstwhile Andhra Pradesh and the allocation of water to Telangana were fully explained by the officials to the minister. In response, Uttam Kumar Reddy provided guidance on how to present strong arguments for the water allocations that are legally due to Telangana.

The minister further said that the farmers, who have been dependent on irrigation for decades, have become self-destructive due to water scarcity, and the current Congress government has paid special attention to correcting such injustices.

He also instructed the Irrigation Department officials to provide comprehensive information required for the arguments before Krishna Tribunal 2 and to coordinate with the team in Delhi and update them from time to time.

Apart from that, Uttam suggested the officials to keep him informed about the current status of cases and appeals pending in various courts related to the state. The state government led by Chief Minister Revanth Reddy is paying special attention to resolving inter-state water disputes, he added.

State Irrigation Advisor Aditya Das Nath, ENCs Anil Kumar, Vijaya Bhaskar Reddy, senior advocate CS Vaidya Nathan and others participated in this review meeting.
