He is the first Kannada-Konkani person to receive this scholarship. Shaun is the grandson of the late Nicholas Dsouza, the first chairperson of Chikmagalur Town Planning, and the son of Benedict Stevenson DSouza and Anna Diana DSouza of Chikmagalur.
The Clinton Global Initiative Award brings together leaders of NGOs and philanthropic organisations, business, labor, and finance, influential youth advocates, heads of state and government officials, and other global citizens to explore effective models for making positive change. It supports partners and their programs by helping to forge new partnerships, provide technical support, and elevate compelling models with the potential to scale. CGI works to identify, elevate, and mobilise resources to scale solutions to global challenges.
It is a year-long fellowship based on online modules and policy development. Shaun is one of 800 Fellows across the globe who will take part in the policy execution of his Commitment to Action (CTA) on Mental Health well-being for students and youth in rural and semi-urban parts of Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, and Telangana by 2025. Shaun will kickstart his project on King’s Global Day of Service on 31 March, which will be led by King’s Alumni Hyderabad president and treasurer.
Shaun aims to motivate the youth to participate in active political spaces through scientific commentaries and policy dialogues. His mission is to provide free and accessible mental health care and political education to the youth, which he hopes will be the foundation for sustainable development.
