Operation Sindoor: Rahul Gandhi accuses PM of giving in to Trump’s pressure on ceasefire
Bhopal: Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi today accused Prime Minister Modi of giving in to the pressure of US President Donald Trump on ceasefire (with Pakistan).
“Prime Minister Narendra Modi could not withstand the pressure of US President Donald Trump, who forced him to go for the ceasefire,” he said.
He said the RSS and the BJP have a record and history of writing surrender letters and suggested that is what Modi did when Trump asked him to stop the war with Pakistan.
Gandhi announced that the Congress will rebuild organisation from the grassroots in MP, with accountability and performance as the basic criteria. He said that the Congress Working Committee has decided that the process must begin with the District Congress Committee presidents, who will be empowered and have a say in the selection of candidates for local bodies, the assembly, and the Lok Sabha elections. He said, there is no point in giving responsibility without power.
Addressing the party workers’ convention, as part of the ‘Sangathan Srijan Abhiyan’ here today, he referred to his challenge to Prime Minister Modi in Parliament, where he (Rahul) had said that he would ensure that the caste census is conducted during the current tenure of the Lok Sabha.
Gandhi said he has known the RSS and the BJP people for a long time, and they succumb to just a little bit of pressure. In the same context, he remarked tauntingly, “Trump called Modi and he instantly followed his diktat (to stop the war)”.
In stark contrast, he referred to Smt. Indira Gandhi’s firm stand against the United States in 1971, despite the Seventh Fleet aircraft carrier having arrived in the Bay of Bengal. He said the Congress leaders like Mahatma Gandhi, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, and Indira Gandhi were people of great strength and character, and they were not the kind to surrender.
He pointed out that when he used to demand a caste census, Modi, Gadkari, and Mohan Bhagwat strongly opposed it. He observed that their (the BJP’s) intentions remain unclear, as their recent announcement to conduct the caste census appears to have been made only under pressure.
He apprehended that the caste census would meet the same fate as the Women's Reservation Bill, which the government put off for another ten years. He remarked that the BJP does not want to carry out a caste census as it does not want to bring social justice. He said the Modi government only wants the Adani-Ambani model in the country, where the wealth is grabbed by a select few people.
Referring to the strengthening of the party organisation, Rahul Gandhi said, There is no dearth of people in the Congress who firmly believe in the party's ideology. He said there are a few people who make absurd statements. He said, while some issue such statements in frustration, others do it as they are somehow working in the interest of the BJP.
Referring to the party workers present in the convention hall, he said people are sitting in this room who have the capacity and capability to defeat the BJP. He said, the Congress will encourage the new generation of leaders who will take forward the Congress party and its ideology. “The day you decide that the BJP has to be defeated and shunted out, it will take no time to do that”, he told the workers in the convention hall amidst a huge thumping applause.
