Orange alert: IMD forecasts rains, gusty winds in Andhra parts as Cyclonic Storm Ditwah closes in

Amaravati: Indian Meteorological Department, Amaravati, has issued an orange alert for South coastal Andhra Pradesh as Cyclonic Storm Ditwah closes in.
Thunderstorm accompanied by lightning, gusty winds reaching 30-40 kmph, and light rainfall likely to occur at one or two places over Eluru, Nellore, and Tirupati districts on Saturday.
IMD warns that extremely heavy rainfall is likely to occur at one or two places over Sri Potti Sriramulu Nellore, Chittoor, Tirupati, and Annamayya districts of South Coastal Andhra Pradesh & Rayalaseema. Heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely to occur at one or two places over Prakasam, YSR Kadapa, Anantapur, Sri Satya Sai, Nandyal, Palnadu, Bapatla, Guntur, Krishna, and NTR districts of South Coastal Andhra Pradesh & Rayalaseema for the next two days.
Cyclonic Storm Ditwah is hovering close to the southwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining north Sri Lanka. It moved north-northwestwards with a speed of 8 kmph on 29th November 2025 over the southwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining north Sri Lanka.
It is very likely to continue to move north-northwestwards and reach over the southwest Bay of Bengal near North Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and adjoining south Andhra Pradesh coasts by early morning of November 30.
Squally winds speed reaching 50-60 kmph gusting to 70 kmph likely to prevail, and it is very likely to increase further, becoming Gale wind speed reaching 60-70 kmph gusting to 80 kmph from evening along and off south Coastal Andhra Pradesh. Thereafter, it is likely to decrease gradually, becoming squally wind speed reaching 55-65 gusting to 75 kmph by December 1.
