PM Modi to visit Amaravati on May 2, kickstart pending capital city development works

Amravati: PM Narendra Modi to visit the city on May 2

Amaravati: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Amaravati on May 2 to resume the development works of the capital city. On Wednesday, a comprehensive review meeting was held by chief secretary K Vijayanand at the State Secretariat to discuss the necessary preparations for the visit.

The prime minister will commence the works from the same location where the recent P-4 inauguration ceremony took place, located behind the State Secretariat. While the date of the visit is confirmed, the timing—morning or evening—is yet to be finalised.

Ministers’ sub-committee to manage arrangements

To oversee the arrangements, the State government has constituted a Cabinet Sub-Committee comprising ministers Payyavula Keshav, Kollu Ravindra, Satyakumar Yadav, Nadendla Manohar, and P Narayana.

Chief Secretary Vijayanand focused on the need for meticulous planning and directed officials to issue relevant orders to the concerned departments by Thursday. He instructed them to compile a list of officials who previously handled duties during the prime minister’s visit to Visakhapatnam, so similar responsibilities can be reassigned.

Considering the peak summer conditions, the CS emphasised the importance of ensuring basic amenities and comfort for dignitaries, attendees and the public. Since access to the event will be via rural roads passing through multiple villages, he urged officials to address potential traffic issues proactively.

Security arrangements

Commissioner of Medical, Health and Family Welfare, Veerapandian, has been appointed as the nodal officer to coordinate and monitor all arrangements. All departments have been instructed to work closely with him.

Principal Secretary of the General Administration Department, Mukesh Kumar Meena, urged department officials to coordinate with the Police Department to finalise security and protocol arrangements for VIPs and other dignitaries. He assured that GAD would soon issue detailed guidelines for departmental responsibilities.

PM Modi’s public event

The Prime Minister’s meeting will be held at the same location as the P-4 event. During the visit, PM Modi will inaugurate and lay foundation stones for various developmental projects. Arrangements are being made to accommodate nearly 5 lakh attendees — including seating for 50,000 at the main venue, space for 1 lakh people along the route to greet the PM, and additional viewing areas elsewhere.

Nine major routes have been identified for the smooth movement of VIPs and the public, with necessary measures to prevent traffic congestion. Large numbers of people from nearby districts, including Krishna, Guntur, Eluru and Prakasa,m are expected to attend, with additional participation from other regions as well.
