Amaravati: Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has urged Chief Justice of India Justice Surya Kant to consider establishing a National Judicial Academy (NJA) in Amaravati.
He said the state government is committed to developing the capital as the “best Judicial City in the country.”
The Chief Minister appealed at a State-level symposium on “Mediation: Dialogue as the Cornerstone of Justice” organised by the Andhra Pradesh State Legal Services Authority in Vijayawada on Sunday.
Justice Surya Kant attended the conference as the chief guest and was welcomed by the Chief Minister and Andhra Pradesh High Court Chief Justice Justice Dhiraj Singh Thakur.
Vision for a ‘Judicial City’ in Amaravati
Naidu said Amaravati’s capital development plans include world-class judicial infrastructure under a proposed “Justice City.”
The government intends to integrate key institutions such as a Judicial Academy, Legal Services Authority, Mediation Centre, International Law University, and the Bar Council of India within the judicial hub.
He assured that the State is ready to allocate the required land for these institutions and sought the cooperation of the Chief Justice of India in establishing the National Judicial Academy in Amaravati.
Incentives for Mediation
Highlighting the importance of alternative dispute resolution, the Chief Minister announced financial incentives to promote mediation.
He said Rs 10,000 would be provided for cases successfully resolved through mediation, and Rs 3,000 even in instances where mediation efforts do not result in a settlement.
Recalling traditional village-level dispute resolution mechanisms, Naidu noted that elders once played a crucial role in settling conflicts amicably. He said speedy justice through mediation would reduce case pendency and contribute to faster development.
Amaravati’s development narrative
The Chief Minister reiterated that over 29,000 farmers had voluntarily contributed land under the land pooling system for the construction of Amaravati.
He described the capital as an environmentally sustainable and economically robust city in the making.
Judges of the Supreme Court and High Court, advocates, and senior officials attended the symposium.
