By Newsmeter Network Published on 31 May 2024 2:58 AM GMTBengaluru: Suspended JD(S) MP Prajwal Revanna, facing allegations of sexually abusing several women, was arrested by the SIT probing the case, minutes after he landed from Germany here in the wee hours of Friday.
The 33 year-old MP was arrested at the Kempegowda International Airport by the Special Investigation Team (SIT), as soon as he returned to Bengaluru from Munich.
A large number of policemen were deployed there to ensure that he was taken safely to police station for investigation. The MP returned to Bengaluru a month after the scandal broke out, only to be taken into custody by the Central Industrial Security Forces sleuths, who later handed him over to the SIT.
After the formalities, the SIT took him under its custody, sources said.
Arrived after a month
Exactly a month after he left the country, Prajwal Revanna, who is facing charges of sexually abusing several women, had on May 27 released a video stating he will appear before the SIT on May 31. His arrival after the Lok Sabha 2024 election campaign has concluded. Indian National Congress party workers in Karnataka allege that the Narendra Modi government has asked him to come back after the election campaign to not diminish his image.
Special court rejects bail
A Special Court rejected the anticipatory bail plea of suspended JD(S) leader Prajwal Revanna, who is facing allegations of sexually abusing several women, in a rape case. The special court for Elected Representative dismissed the bail application moved by his advocate Arun.
'Hasan Chalo' march
A day before his arrest, hundreds of people carried out protest march, seeking justice for the victims of the alleged sexual abuse by suspended JD(S) leader Prajwal Revanna.
They also demand the arrest of the accused and a fair probe into the cases. The march under the banner 'Namma Nadige, Hassanada Kadega' (Our march towards Hassan), was organised by 'Naveddu Nilladiddare' (If we don't stand up), a human rights collective, and was joined by civil society groups from across the state, including women, labour, farmers, Dalit, and sexual minority.
The march was held amid the beats of 'Tamate' (a percussion instrument) and drums. Besides demanding the arrest of Prajwal, the participants also sought justice for the victims and expressed solidarity with them.
