Hyderabad: Telangana High Court has pulled up the state police for their inaction on an Enforcement Directorate (ED) alert about the illegal transfer of government land in Nagaram village of Maheshwaram mandal in Ranga Reddy district.

The Court has directed the Director General of Police (DGP), Maheshwaram DCP, and SHO of Maheshwaram Police Station to submit a detailed report within a week on the steps taken following the ED’s communication.

Petitioner flags police inaction

The direction came during the hearing of a petition filed by Dastagiri Sharif, who claimed ownership over land in Survey No. 181.

He alleged that despite receiving a detailed letter from the ED in February 2024, the police had failed to act or even respond to the central agency’s findings pointing to forgery and manipulation of land records.

ED finds evidence of Fraudulent Transfers

According to the petitioner, the ED’s preliminary probe revealed a criminal conspiracy involving tampering of official documents and creation of fake ownership papers to facilitate the illegal transfer of government land in Survey Nos. 181 and 182.

The agency had urged the State police to conduct a detailed investigation and take legal action against those involved. However, the petitioner said there was no visible progress or response from the police despite multiple representations, forcing him to approach the High Court.

Court terms allegations serious

After hearing the submissions, Justice NV Shravan Kumar observed that the allegations pointed to serious offences of forgery, document fabrication, and illegal land transactions.

The judge directed the DGP, Maheshwaram DCP, and SHO to file their response within one week, detailing the action taken on the ED’s alert.

The Court posted the matter for further hearing next week and instructed the Government Pleader to ensure the concerned officials submit their reports before the next date.
