Telangana Panchayat voting in phase 1 concludes; Congress says mandate will mirror people’s aspirations

Hyderabad: The first phase of polling for the Telangana panchayat elections 2025 ended peacefully on Thursday. Voting started at 7 am and closed at 1 pm. By closing time, the number of votes polled was recorded at 45,15,141. The polling percentage was 84.28%.
As many as 12,960 candidates were in the fray for 3,834 Sarpanch posts and 65,455 candidates competed for the 27,628 Ward Member posts in the first phase.
After the polls closed, the counting began at 2 pm.
According to early numbers, the ruling Congress has taken a lead in winning the panchayat seats ahead of the BRS and BJP.
TPCC president and MLC Mahesh Kumar Goud expressed happiness over the resounding victory of Congress-supported candidates in the first phase of the Panchayat Elections-2025.
He stated that winning more than 90 per cent of the Sarpanch seats by Congress-backed candidates across the state stands as a strong testimony to the people’s trust in the Congress government.
‘Results mirror people’s aspirations’
He said that these results, which perfectly mirror the aspirations of the people, reaffirm their immense confidence in the government.
Mahesh Kumar Goud explained that the Congress party treated the Panchayat Elections as highly prestigious and he personally played a crucial role in coordinating and supervising the election process.
He said that continuous coordination with ministers, MPs, MLAs and local leaders, along with strategic planning and execution at the village level, greatly contributed to this massive victory.
‘Grassroots connections helped party’
He added that the Congress model of connecting directly with the people at the grassroots level significantly strengthened the party’s presence in rural Telangana.
The TPCC President said that under Chief Minister Revanth Reddy’s leadership, two years of governance focused on welfare and development have brought the government closer to the people, which is clearly reflected in the Panchayat election results.
He further stated that the CM and ministers have been closely understanding and resolving village-level issues, which boosted people’s trust in the Congress party.
‘People across all sections have supported Congress’
“People have endorsed our slogan of welfare, social justice and development. The sweeping victory of Congress candidates in the Sarpanch elections is proof of that,” Mahesh Kumar Goud said.
He stated that minorities, Dalits, Adivasis, women, farmers and youth across the state extended overwhelming support to Congress, marking a new direction in rural governance.
He remarked that social justice was clearly visible in these Panchayat Elections.
‘Government committed towards rural development’
He said that rural people made their decisions based on development and welfare, showcasing a new political culture emerging in Telangana.
Mahesh Kumar Goud added that this victory brings greater responsibility to the party, and the government is committed to accelerating rural development.
He said the Congress government is moving ahead with a vision to strengthen the Panchayati Raj system and transform every village into a hub of development.
The TPCC chief concluded that the results of the first phase of the Sarpanch elections reflect the positive environment created by the government’s welfare initiatives, and this mandate will further strengthen the Congress party in Telangana.
