Hyderabad: Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka Mallu on Saturday revealed that since the Congress party assumed office, the Telangana government has spent Rs 3,593 crore towards electricity bills on behalf of beneficiaries under the Gruha Jyothi scheme, which provides free power up to 200 units to eligible households.
Ensuring dignity for the poor
Addressing the Legislative Assembly, Bhatti Vikramarka said the primary objective of the government is to ensure that poor and marginalized sections of society live with dignity and self-respect.
“As part of this commitment, free electricity up to 200 units is being provided under the Gruha Jyothi scheme, and the scheme will continue in the future,” he said.
Scheme beyond parties and communities
Responding to questions raised by members G. Madhusudan, Nagaraju, Kavampalli Satyanarayana and others, the Deputy Chief Minister clarified that the scheme is being implemented uniformly across the state.
“The benefits are extended to all eligible households, irrespective of political affiliations or communities,” he told the House.
