Telangana to unveil Sports Policy 2025 at first-ever State sports conclave on Saturday
Hyderabad: Telangana is poised to make a bold statement in India’s sporting landscape with the launch of its Sports Policy 2025, which will be formally unveiled at the State’s first-ever Sports Conclave on Saturday in Hyderabad.
Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy, Sports Minister Vakiti Srihari, and Sports Authority of Telangana Chairman Shivasena Reddy will inaugurate the event.
Designed as a future-facing blueprint for sporting excellence, the policy focuses on grassroots development, athlete welfare, gender and ability inclusion, and the creation of world-class sports infrastructure across the State.
Sporting icons, industry leaders to attend event
The Sports Conclave will bring together some of India’s most celebrated athletes, including Olympic medalists Abhinav Bindra, Gagan Narang, Anju Bobby George and badminton coach Pullela Gopichand.
The gathering will also feature top sports administrators, CSR heads from leading corporates, and global sporting bodies, including FIFA. Their participation underscores the significance of the occasion and highlights Telangana’s growing commitment to becoming a national hub for sports innovation and performance.
MoUs with corporates, global bodies
As part of the conclave, the Telangana government will sign a series of strategic Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) with leading corporates and international sports organisations. These agreements are expected to bring in investment, technical expertise and global exposure, giving a major boost to the State’s ambitious sports agenda.
Bridge the urban-rural divide
Sports Minister Vakiti Srihari, speaking ahead of the launch, said the policy represents Telangana’s vision to lead India’s sporting renaissance. “This is more than a policy, it’s a declaration. We want every child, from the smallest village to the biggest city, to believe in the dream of becoming a champion,” he said.
The policy aims to bridge the urban-rural divide, ensure support for women and para-athletes, and offer record-breaking rewards to performers. It also introduces long-term institutional mechanisms to sustain sporting momentum across generations.
Telangana to get Sports University and Elite Academy
A cornerstone of the policy is the establishment of a dedicated Sports University in Hyderabad, which will focus on sports science, coaching education, research and specialised programs in para-sports. The university is envisioned as a national centre for excellence in athlete development.
In addition, the State will launch a high-performance sports academy, overseen by a reputed national or international integrator. The academy will scout and nurture talent in 14 priority sports, host global training camps, and provide elite facilities across districts.
To support these ambitious plans, the government will also set up a Sports Development Fund to ensure transparent and sustained financial support.
A vision for Olympic Glory
Telangana’s Sports Policy 2025 marks a transformative shift from event-based promotion to systemic development, with a long-term vision to build Olympic-level athletes. It seeks to create not just medal-winners, but role models who inspire future generations.
With strong leadership, strategic partnerships, and a sharp focus on inclusion and excellence, Telangana is positioning itself as a rising powerhouse in Indian sports, ready to compete, excel, and lead on the national and global stage, the Minister said.
