TGSRTC ferries record 3.68 crore passengers in six days during Rakhi
Hyderabad: The Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TGSRTC) recorded unprecedented passenger movement during the Rakhi Purnima festival, ferrying 3.68 crore passengers in just six days.
Women availed 2.51 crore free journeys under the stateās Mahalakshmi Scheme, making this the biggest festive rush in the corporationās history.
Highest-ever single-day travel by women
On August 9 (Rakhi festival), TGSRTC carried 45.62 lakh women passengers. The figure peaked on August 11 with 45.94 lakh women travelling in a single day, the highest daily count ever recorded by the corporation.
Massive growth over last year
In 2024, TGSRTC transported 2.75 crore passengers during Rakhi.
This yearās numbers mark a jump of 92.95 lakh passengers. The fleet clocked 2.28 crore kilometres, an increase of 53 lakh kilometres over last year.
Minister applauds staff commitment
Transport Minister Ponnam Prabhakar hailed the overwhelming response, saying the travel surge reflects the strong brother-sister bond in Telangana. He commended TGSRTC employees for working through heavy rains, sacrificing their own festivities and ensuring passengers reached their destinations safely.
Efficient planning behind the numbers
TGSRTC managing director VC Sajjanar credited meticulous planning and staff dedication for the record performance. He revealed that August 11 saw 68.45 lakh passengers in total, the highest single-day ridership in TGSRTC history. Sajjanar expressed gratitude to passengers for supporting and trusting the stateās public transport system.
