Tirumala: Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) today said pilgrims will get free travel on APSRTC buses within Tirumala.
The move is aimed at enhancing transportation facilities and curbing overcharging by private transport operators.
TTD Executive Officer (EO) J Shyamala Rao said the move is aimed at addressing growing complaints from devotees about being charged excessive fares by private vehicle operators for short trips within the temple town.
Buses to cover key locations in Tirumala
Currently, APSRTC buses operate between Tirupati and Tirumala with services mostly limited to the central bus station. The new plan involves expanding these services to cover key locations throughout Tirumala, ensuring better accessibility for pilgrims. RTC officials have agreed to operate these services free of cost, Rao said.
150 buses to be deployed initially
The initiative will be rolled out in phases, with 150 buses being deployed in the first phase. TTD already operates a limited number of electric buses offering free services, and the addition of APSRTC buses is expected to significantly reduce dependency on private taxis.
Special wing to oversee TTD temples across India
The EO also revealed that TTD owns 61 temples and properties across India. To streamline the administration and upkeep of these religious and cultural assets, a dedicated department will soon be set up, and officers will be appointed to oversee their operations and maintenance.
