Tirumala: TTD to leverage AI to manage pilgrim flow, reduce waiting time in summer

Tirumala: Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) is all set to leverage its Integrated AI Command & Control Centre to monitor and manage pilgrim flow in real time.

The move is aimed at reducing waiting time for general devotees during the summer.

The announcement was made during a review meeting to assess summer preparedness measures in view of the expected heavy influx of devotees during school holidays.

Addressing officials, TTD Additional Executive Officer Ch. Venkaiah Chowdary said the AI-driven system will track hourly inflow, outflow, and waiting times, enabling officials to take swift, data-backed decisions wherever required. The primary focus, he emphasised, is to ensure faster darshan and minimise inconvenience to devotees.

Data-driven planning for peak season

The Additional EO said that elaborate and well-structured arrangements are being made to prevent inconvenience during the anticipated surge in pilgrim turnout.

He noted that data from the past two to three summer seasons, including the number of darshans facilitated, average waiting hours, and the impact of carry-forward queues, has been thoroughly analysed. The insights are being used to fine-tune operational strategies for the forthcoming season.

Strengthening devotee amenities

To enhance facilities for pilgrims, TTD is reinforcing several essential services, including:

Expansion of Annaprasadam distribution.

Strengthening drinking water supply.

Installation of temporary shelters along footpath routes for pedestrian devotees.

Cool painting along Mada Streets and other high-footfall areas.

Erection of additional sheds wherever necessary.

Increase in buttermilk distribution centres to help devotees cope with peak summer heat.

Special attention is also being given to accommodation management and medical services, particularly as a large number of families visit Tirumala during school holidays.

Last summer’s performance

Recalling last year’s performance, he said that during the peak summer month of June, TTD facilitated darshan for an average of 80,000 to 82,000 devotees per day. He attributed the success to effective time management and coordinated efforts across departments.

Coordinated departmental efforts

The Additional EO emphasised that all TTD departments will function in close coordination with the sole objective of providing devotees with a faster, smoother, and more comfortable darshan experience during the ensuing summer season.

TTD Chief Engineer Satyanarayana, Transport General Manager Sesha Reddy, Deputy Executive Officers Lokanatham, Bhaskar, Somannarayana, Venkataiah, and Venkateshwarulu, Vigilance and Security Officer Surendra, along with other officials, were present at the review meeting.
