Hyderabad: Twitter India on 1 February withheld the handles of several personality and media outlets citing legal demands.

Twitter has not yet clarified the reason behind the action of withholding these accounts.

According to ANI, Ministry of Electronics and IT (MEITY) directed Twitter to block around 250 Tweets/Twitter accounts which were using #ModiPlanningFarmerGenocide hashtag & making fake, intimidatory & provocative Tweets on Jan 30.

According to Twitter's terms and condition policy, "If you see the account has been withheld, it means Twitter was compelled to withhold the entire account specified (e.g., @username) in response to a valid legal demand, such as a court order."

Most of these Twitter accounts are of media personalities and media outlets that are supporting the protest by the farmers and are speaking against the NDA government.

Twitter handle of The Caravan, a magazine published from Delhi, and Prashar Bharti CEO Shashi Shekher's handle are some of the accounts that faced suspension and were later followed by hundreds of other individuals and organisations.

Here are some of the prominent accounts which have been withheld by Twitter.
