US bombing Iran: Left Parties condemn attack; violation of international law, says Asaduddin Owaisi
New Delhi/Hyderabad: The Left Parties including Communist Party of India (CPI), Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPI (M)), Communist Party of India (ML)-Liberation (CPI-ML), All India Forward Bloc (AIFB) and Revolutionary Socialist Party (RSP), and All India Majlis-E-Ittehadul Muslimeen and Indian National Congress have strongly condemned the United States bombing of Iran.
Joint statement of Left parties
The five Left Parties strongly condemned the United States’ bombing of Iran, calling it a grave violation of Iranian sovereignty and the UN Charter.
In their joint statement about the bombing, they said:
- This bombing will inflame global tensions
- Destabilise West Asia
- Severe economic repercussions
The Left parties stated that the intent of imposing war on Iran is to destabilise West Asia.
The real intention is to destroy Iran, establish imperialist hegemony over West Asia and control the global flow of resources, said D Raja, general secretary CPI.
The other members who have signed the joint statement are general secretary MA Baby, Dipankar Bhattacharya, general secretary CI(ML) Liberation and others.
Congress’ stand
Congress Parliamentary Party Chairperson Sonia Gandhi’s statement said, “India must speak clearly, act responsibly and use every diplomatic channel available to defuse tensions and promote a return to dialogue in West Asia. New Delhi’s silence on Gaza and the attack on Iran reflects a departure from moral and diplomatic traditions. This represents not just a loss of voice but also a surrender of values.”
Asaduddin Owaisi in Hyderabad
AIMIM president and member of Parliament Asaduddin Owaisi said, “The attack carried out by the United States this morning on three or four of Iran’s nuclear sites is a violation of international law, a violation of the United Nations Charter, a violation of the NPT and a violation of the United States’ own constitution.”
What about talks?
Questions are being raised on the two-week window for talks that US president Trump spoke about.
Left parties, in their joint statement, said, “This clearly demonstrates that the US-Israel axis has little regard for their own intelligence assessments or any diplomatic process, and is intent on imposing war on Iran and the entire West Asian region. This attack is aimed at serving the interests of the military-industrial complex and enabling international capital to navigate its way out of the prolonged economic crisis.”
Impact on India
The US attack will, in all likelihood, drastically escalate the conflict, with disastrous implications for global peace and the livelihoods of ordinary people, especially in countries like India, which rely heavily on West Asia for oil imports and opportunities for migrant labour. The already burdened working masses will be the worst affected by the economic fallout of the war, the statement said.
