Vijayawada terror case: 6 accused sent to police custody; judicial remand of 11 others extended
Amaravati: A local court has sent six accused in the Vijayawada terror case to police remand.
The court also extended the judicial remand of 11 other accused in the case.
Court grants police custody to six accused
Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Bezawada Radharani granted police custody of six accused including Shadman Dilkash (named as Accused number 4), Lakshmi Ahmed (Accused no 7), Jishan Abdul Majeed (Accused no 9), Meer Asif Ali (Accused no 10), Shah Rukh Khan (Accused no 12), and Fayaz Ur Rahman (Accused no 13).
Acting on a petition filed by the police last week, the court allowed custody for five days, from April 9 to April 13, to facilitate detailed questioning.
Accused produced virtually before Court
The accused lodged in Rajamahendravaram Central Prison were produced before the magistrate through virtual mode by jail authorities during the hearing.
Remand extended till April 20
Meanwhile, the remand period of 11 accused in the case, excluding a minor, was set to expire on Monday. Following their production before the court, the magistrate extended their judicial remand till April 20.
Those whose police custody had ended, Mohammed Rahantulla Sharif (A1), Mohammed Danish (A2), Mirza Sohail Beg (A3), Saeeda Begum (A5), and Abdul Salam (A11), were presented before the court after undergoing medical examinations.
Shifted back to Rajamahendravaram Jail
After the court proceedings, the five accused whose custody ended were shifted back to Rajamahendravaram Central Prison under tight security arrangements.
Decision pending on minor accused
Police have also filed a petition in the Juvenile Court seeking custody of the minor accused for a week. However, the court is yet to deliver its decision on the matter.
