Hyderabad: Telangana government has drawn up an ambitious infrastructure roadmap to expand the state’s total road network to 58,102 kilometres by 2047. This includes 19,000 kilometres of new roads to be built over the next 22 years.

The roadmap is outlined by the Roads & Buildings (R&B) Department in the Vision 2047 document.

The plan focuses on modern expressways, high-capacity highways, elevated corridors, major bridges, and large-scale public infrastructure, aimed at strengthening connectivity and accelerating economic growth.

Present network and future target

At present, Telangana has nearly 34,405 km of roads under various categories. By 2047, the network will increase to 58,102 km, ensuring better access between cities, industrial hubs, and rural areas. An additional 19,000 km of roads are proposed for construction during this period.

Road-wise targets by 2030

As part of the phased expansion, the government has fixed category-wise targets to be achieved by 2030. These include 4,983 km of National Highways, 15,852 km of State Highways, 11,536 km of Major District Roads, and 5,345 km of Other District Roads.

Regional Ring Road to decongest Hyderabad

A major highlight of the plan is the 362-km-long Regional Ring Road (RRR) that will encircle Hyderabad through its northern and southern corridors. The project is aimed at easing traffic congestion in the city while boosting regional logistics and industrial growth. The estimated project cost is ₹127 crore.

Major Highway widening projects

Several key highways will be widened to six lanes to accommodate rising traffic volumes.

The Hyderabad–Bengaluru section of NH-44 will be upgraded into a six-lane corridor over 480 km for Rs 5,221 crore.

The Hyderabad–Vijayawada highway, spanning 230 km, will also be converted into a six-lane road with an estimated expenditure of Rs 9,000 crore.

The Hyderabad–Srisailam stretch of NH-765, covering 150 km, will be expanded for Rs 2,746 crore.

In addition, the Nagpur–Hyderabad stretch of NH-44, extending over 394 km, will also be developed as a six-lane highway.

Economic Corridors and Elevated Roads

The government has proposed the Hyderabad–Amaravati–Machilipatnam economic corridor over a distance of 234 km, to be developed as a four or six-lane highway at an estimated cost of Rs 12,000 crore.

The proposed Srisailam elevated corridor, with a length of 55 km, will be built for Rs 7,700 crore, significantly reducing travel time to the pilgrimage centre.

A new cable-stayed bridge across the Maneru River will also be constructed for Rs 180 crore.

Rapid Progress in Road Development

During the last two years, from 2023 to 2025, the state has completed 2,240 km of road development works, reflecting the pace at which the Vision 2047 goals are being implemented.

Judicial Infrastructure Expansion

The infrastructure push also includes major investments in judicial buildings. A new High Court complex will be built at Rajendranagar for Rs 2,583 crore. In addition, 10 district court complexes and two POCSO court buildings will be constructed at a combined cost of Rs 972 crore.

Boost to Healthcare Infrastructure

Three super-specialty hospitals are proposed at Alwal, Sanathnagar, and LB Nagar with a total investment of ₹5,000 crore.

The new building of Osmania General Hospital at Goshamahal is being constructed for Rs 2,700 crore and is scheduled for completion by March 2028.

Under the medical education infrastructure, 17 medical college buildings under Phase I and Phase II are being taken up for Rs 2,761 crore. Recently, medical college works worth Rs 731 crore have been completed at Sangareddy, Ramagundam, and Nagarkurnool, adding 1,800 hospital beds across the state.

Vision 2047 Focus on Growth and Connectivity

Officials said the Vision 2047 roadmap is designed to position Telangana as a high-growth logistics and investment destination, driven by world-class road infrastructure, modern healthcare facilities, and a strengthened judicial system.
