New Delhi: Congress has questioned the government as to why the terrorists responsible for the Pahalgam massacre were still at large, even a month after the incident.

“People of India deserve accountability, not theatrics”, the party asserted.

Congress party MP and CWC member Praniti Shinde observed: “The Modi government has reduced matters of national security, diplomacy, and internal stability to mere photo opportunities and hollow narratives”.

After Operation Sindoor, Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s focus has been on optics and self-promotion, not answers, she remarked.

She said, in the aftermath of the brutal terror attack in Pahalgam that claimed so many lives, the country is still waiting for answers. “Why are the terrorists responsible for this heinous act still at large? What concrete steps have been taken to bring the perpetrators to justice?” she asked.

Referring to US President Donald Trump's repeated claims that he used trade threats to pressure India into agreeing to a ceasefire, she said, it should have been addressed by the government immediately. “Why has the Modi Government chosen complete silence in response to this humiliating assertion?” she questioned the government, adding, “Is this the cost of surrendering India’s diplomatic leverage in the face of international pressure?” She remarked that after Trump’s announcement, the Modi government’s silence has made our country look weak globally.

Shinde noted that even more disturbing was the revelation made by External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar, who publicly stated that “India had informed Pakistan at the start of Operation Sindoor that the targets were terrorist bases, not the Pakistan Army”.

She asked, why was such sensitive information shared with Pakistan during an ongoing military operation, and what consequences has this disclosure had on India’s national security and strategic deterrence?

The CWC member observed that at a time when the country is demanding clarity, transparency, and decisive leadership, Prime Minister Modi’s continued refusal to attend an all-party meeting or convene a special session of Parliament, as sought by the Congress leadership, raises serious concerns.

“What is the Modi Government trying to hide? Why is it avoiding a discussion on such critical national issues in Parliament, where elected representatives are duty-bound to seek and deliver accountability to the people?” she wanted to know.

The Congress MP said that the BJP’s attempt to wrap every crisis in glossy PR has deeply undermined democratic values and weakened institutional response mechanisms. “The Prime Minister cannot run away from scrutiny. The people of India demand and deserve honest answers, not carefully scripted speeches, drone shots, and choreographed silence”, she asserted, while remarking, “everything can’t be brought down to a PR exercise. National security is not a reality show. It is time the Modi Government treats it with the seriousness it deserves”.
