Woman Maoist from Chhattisgarh surrenders before Mulugu DSP

Mulugu: A 30-year-old woman cadre of the banned CPI (Maoist) outfit from Chhattisgarh surrendered before the police in Telangana on Monday.

The surrender reflects the growing impact of Telangana’s welfare and rehabilitation measures aimed at encouraging extremists to return to the mainstream, the police said.

According to police, the woman surrendered before Mulugu District Superintendent of Police Shabarish P, expressing her resolve to abandon the path of violence and begin a new life in peace.

Under the Telangana government’s surrender and rehabilitation policy, the Superintendent of Police handed over Rs 25,000 as immediate financial assistance to the woman Maoist.

Inspired by government initiatives

Officials said the Maoist woman was influenced by the welfare and development programmes being implemented for tribal and backward communities in Telangana.

She was also motivated by the rehabilitation policy for surrendered Maoists, which offers support, security and livelihood opportunities to those who renounce extremism.

“She decided to leave the path of Naxalism, lead a peaceful life and join the mainstream after witnessing the government’s efforts for inclusive growth,” the SP said.

Rising trend of surrenders

The Mulugu district police have reported a steady rise in Maoist surrenders this year. With this case, the total number of Maoists who have surrendered in the district in 2025 has reached 85, officials confirmed.

Police said the trend reflects a growing confidence in the government’s reform and reintegration initiatives, which are encouraging more extremists to shun violence.

Authorities have once again appealed to Maoists still operating in the forests to lay down arms and utilise the rehabilitation opportunities provided by the state for a secure and dignified life.
