No more relationship column in Aadhar

Hyderabad: Centre has reportedly decided to scrap the column of father, husband and other relations in the Aadhar cards.Care-of Address (c/o) will replace the father or husband name in Aadhar cards, according to sources.

Indian citizens generally prove their citizenship by showing the Aadhar card or Passport. Similarly, NRIs also need to carry their Aadhar and Passport with them.

Sources claim that Centre has changed the necessary parameters in Aadhar software. If anyone has to get a new mobile SIM card or want to update it with Aadhar, he or she has to go to nearby Aadhar center. Soon after updating the mobile number, Aadhar card details will display c/o instead of father's name/ husband's name. One can't modify this column in Aadhar also.

UIDAI also mentioned on its website about the changes in Aadhar column. It said that c/o would replace relationship column in Aadhar card.

Aadhar cards will now be issued without fatherā€™s name or husbandā€™s name, but with c/o address. Existing Aadhar cardholders, if they apply for any modification or change of address, they will also get revised Aadhar card without fatherā€™s name or husbandā€™s name. The details will be replaced by c/o in the relationship column.

Beginning with Aadhar, Centre wants to extend it to the passports as well. Political analysts see NRC as the reason behind the change. Analysts also expressed concern over possible problems in the implementation of welfare schemes and property matters.

ā€œFor instance, a widow has to mention her husband details for getting widow pension. With new system, how can she claim monthly pension?ā€ asked an analyst.
