No stigma attached with COVID-19, AP chief minister allays fears
By Newsmeter Network Published on 2 April 2020 6:08 AM GMTVijayawada: Allaying people’s fears, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy said there is no stigma attached with coronavirus as only four 4 percent of patients need hospitalization, while 80 percent test negative after home quarantine.
“Around 87 persons tested positive in the State of whom 70 had a travel history to Delhi. Around 1085 persons had attended Delhi prayer meeting. We have tracked and taken samples of 585. While 70 tested positive and results of 500 are awaited. Around 21 people are yet to be traced,” he told reporters.
He appealed people to dial 104 if there are any symptoms. “No stigma should be attached with COVID 19. Medical help will come to your home. They will test and advise you accordingly,” he said.
Chief Minister urged people to report any symptoms to ANMs, Asha workers, volunteers who are surveying households across the state. He assured that they would be provided treatment immediately and if necessary they will be taken to the hospital.
“People should report voluntarily in case of any symptoms. The government will shift them to quarantine centers and provide necessary treatment. COVID-19 is like any other fever and can be cured by proper medication and remaining in isolation for 14 days”, he said.
Chief Minister also thanked employees for giving consent on deferring the payments. He said expenditure has increased whereas the income has gone down.
