Normal weekend in Old City, People's Plaza amid government shutdown
By Anurag Mallick Published on 15 March 2020 4:14 PM GMTHyderabad: The city came to a standstill after Telangana, in the wake of the Corona virus outbreak, declared that all educational institutions, coaching centres, and wedding halls be shut down till 31 March. All movie halls, gyms, sporting events, pubs/bars were also asked to remain closed till 21 March. However, in the Old City and the People's plaza, two of the city's most crowded and lively places, life was normal.
At People's Plaza people could be seen sitting under the shade of the trees and enjoying their leisure day out in the sun while a few were exercising and meditating on a fine Sunday morning. A few youngsters had also gathered for a game of cricket. They seemed carefree. Meanwhile, in the Old City it was a normal Sunday as people came out to enjoy their weekend.
Speaking to NewsMeter, a student from Jharkhand, Arvind, said, "I came here to get some information about coaching classes. But once I got here, I got to know of the shutdown and the Corona virus cases in Telangana. I came here last night and was supposed to return home after four days but amid the Corona virus scare, I am leaving tonight."
