Nurse arrested for stealing gold jewelry from COVID-19 victims in Tirupati

State health minister Alla Nani has ordered an inquiry following a series of incidents of missing jewelry of COVID-19 victims at SVIMS.
The superintendent of police (Tirupati urban), Ramesh Reddy, said they had received a few complaints from relatives of COVID-19 victims who were undergoing treatment at Sri Padmavathi state COVID hospital on the premises of SVIMS about missing jewelry. The hospital staff, when questioned by the police, said they had handed over all the belongings of the patients to the families before starting the treatment.
The police checked CCTV footage from the hospital and questioned the staff. They arrested two persons on Monday. Mr. Reddy said the nurse with the help of a ward boy had stolen gold from the dead COVID-19 patients. The police recovered four gold rings and Rs. 6,000 cash from the duo. An investigation is on to nab a few others in connection with the case, he added.
