Officials lock homes in Guntur district to prevent spread of coronavirus

Bapatla/ Guntur: Local authorities have locked the gates of residential homes in the containment areas at Bapatla in Guntur district in a bid to prevent people from venturing out, and contain the spread of Covid-19.

Bapatla Municipal Commissioner A Bhanu Pratap said they have observed that some people in the Red Zones and Containment Areas are venturing out despite lockdown.



Volunteers said they will home deliver the essential commodities to the residents of the Red Zone areas for some days. People in Red Zone areas can also order essentials and medicines through WhatsApp.

Police have put up additional barricades and sealed red-zones. However, some access points have kept open for emergency services. Police are also maintaining the record of people visiting Red-Zone areas.

Sanitation staff is spraying sodium hypochlorite solution in red zones to sanitize the area and prevent the spread of the virus.

It may be recalled that Andhra Pradesh reported 128 Covid-19 cases and one death on Thursday.

With this, the total number of Covid-19 cases in Andhra Pradesh rose to 3,245 including 293 patients from other states and 111 foreign returnees.

The lone death was reported from Kurnool district. The death toll now stands at 59 in Andhra Pradesh.
