Ongole double murder: AP cops to pay Rs 1 lakh for info on killer

Ongole: Five days after a 26-year-old woman and a one-year-old girl were killed near Ongole in Prakasam district of Andhra Pradesh, the police said they will pay Rs 1 lakh for credible information on the killer. The identity of the informer will be protected, they said.

The bodies of the woman and the child, believed to be her daughter, were found between Pernamitta and Lingamgutta under Maddipadu police station limits on December 3. A bloodstained stone, a knife and an empty bottle used to carry petrol were also lying there.

The police have so far learnt that a man had taken the woman, who was in a pink saree, and the baby, towards the crime spot. The double murder came to light after local farmers saw flames in a field and went to the scene to check.

"We suspect the person might have murdered the woman and her daughter and later burnt the bodies. Based on the information from the locals, we could narrow down to the suspect and released his sketch," KVVNV Prasad, Ongole DSP.

Not just the killer, sources said, the police are struggling to establish the identity of the victims too. The teams have been formed to crack the case.

About three weeks ago, the woman and her daughter went missing from East Godavari district. "We suspected that the victims in the Ongole incident might be from East Godavari. Their relatives visited Ongole on Sunday, but they said the bodies were of some other persons citing different physique."
