Two men rape teenage girl after she takes lift in Tirupati

Tirupati: The police on Sunday arrested two men, both 28, on the charges of raping a 16-year-old girl in Tirupati city of Chittoor district in Andhra Pradesh last month after she hitched a ride with one of them.

On November 25, the teenager was waiting for transport at Padmavathipuram junction to reach her home near Tiruchanoor, but could not get one. Left with no option, the girl sought a lift from a two-wheeler, said T Murali Krishna, DSP (East Division, Tirupati).

The biker, Chittoor Venkatesh, moved towards the outskirts of Mullapudi village. He pretended his fuel tank was empty and called a friend, later identified as Rajamohan, for help. The two took the girl to an isolated place and raped, said the police officer.

The duo left the girl at the spot and fled. She then called her parents and narrated the ordeal. The Tiruchanoor police identified Chittoor Venkatesh after scanning the CCTV footage from Padmavathipuram and a few other places.

The duo was arrested near Sindhu Circle and two motorbikes and mobile phones were seized from them. Prime accused Venkatesh has more cases, including murder and assault, against him at Tiruchanoor police station.

The alleged rapists have been booked under Section 376 of the Indian Penal Code and the stringent Protection of Children against Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
