Online petitioners demand justice for rape victim

Hyderabad: Approximately 178,418 have responded to an online petition condemning the brutal killing of Dr Disha (name changed) and demanding stringent action against the perpetrators of the barbaric act. The petition was launched a couple of days back by Dr Shantanu Kodape.

The appeal, posted on popular petition website change.org, comes amid nationwide outrage over the brutal killing of the 26-year-old veterinarian.

It has been a terrifying two days because in less than 24 hours of the veterinarian’s killing, yet another charred body of a 35-year-old woman was found near Shamshabad under Cyberabad police Commissionerate limits.

Both incidents have sent shockwaves across the country.

The petition is signed to seven decision makes- Union Minister of Women and Child Development Smirit Irani, Union HRD minister Ramesh Pokhriyal, Maneka Gandhi, Nirbhaya Centre, State Police, Telangana, Human Rights Watch, UN and Stop Rape Now, UN.

Cyberabad police investigating the alleged gang-rape and brutal murder of city veterinarian achieved a breakthrough on Friday with the arrest of Mohammed Areef, Jollu Naveen, Chintakunta Chennakeshavulu and Jollu Shiva, for their alleged involvement in the heinous crime.

The doctor was raped and murdered when she was on her way home on November 28. The charred body of the Veterinary doctor was found below an underpass near a toll gate, about 30 Kilometres away from Shadnagar.

Meanwhile, the Cyberabad police have made some headway in the suspicious death of a woman near a temple at Siddulagutta in Shamshabad on Saturday. They believe that the woman could be a north Indian migrant worker. They are making inquiries in neighbouring localities with migrant populations.

Even more atrocious is that apart from the two deaths in Hyderabad, a dalit girl was gang-raped and murdered at Kanchipuram, while in Ranchi, a 25-year student met a similar brutal death.
