Osmania University Asst Professor detained in Hyderabad for alleged links with Maoists

Hyderabad: Continuing their crackdown on people with alleged links to the Maoist party, Telangana police conducted searches at the residence of an assistant professor working with OU in Hyderabad. Searches at Dr Jagan’s home at Tarnaka in the city, have resulted in finding incriminating materials — Maoist party letterheads and banned literature. The police of Jogulamba Gadwal district then detained him.

Earlier, Hyderabad police registered a case against Telangana Vidyarthi Vedika (TVV) and arrested its members, while its State President Maddileti is absconding in the case. TVV Gadwal district convenor Naganna and another member Balaram. A case was simultaneously registered at Gadwal district as well.

Continuing the investigation into the case, Gadwal police along with Special Intelligence Bureau searched Jagan’s residence till late evening and detained him. Sources say that the police shifted him to Gadwal for further inquiry, after which he is likely to be arrested and produced before the court.

Jagan, who is working for the University on a contract basis, is also an active member of Revolutionary Writer’s Association. Meanwhile, the association condemned the arrests stating it illegal and termed them as suppression of public voices. As a mark of protest, they are organising programs at Sundarayya Vignana Kendram on Friday.
