Overwhelming response to ‘Airport Run’ at RGIA, Hyderabad

Hyderabad, Mar 1: On leap year day, Saturday, over 2,000 runners from the city joined in the first-ever ‘Airport Run’ hosted by the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA).

With the motto of ‘Run, Eat, Play, Repeat’, the event witnessed the participation of runners from different parts of the city, including a few foreign nationals and RGIA community members.

The 10K Run event began around 5.15 pm, while the 5K Run started at 5.30 pm from the GMR arena. The run was flagged off by Mr SGK Kishore, CEO, GMR Hyderabad International Airport (GHIAL).

Many runners took to Twitter to mark their participation in the run. Dr. Nupur Pavan Bang, a lecturer from Indian School of Business (ISB) tweeted saying, “Evening run is a good idea if weather cooperates. And it was good weather at #Hyderabad to complete the #10k run @RGIAHyd #HydAirportRun. Far from the madding crowd, after a long gap. Struggled a bit. But completed it!”

The winners took home Rs. 30,000 while the second and third finishers pocketed Rs. 20,000 and Rs 10,000 each.

A scintillating rendition by Capricio band brought the curtains down on a glittering note.

Interestingly, the airport also opened its doors for registered participants, who were taken around on a tour of specific airport operations like aircraft maintenance repair and overhaul, Flight Simulation Centre, and flight kitchens.

Mr Kishore said, “We are thrilled to host such a large gathering. We wished to foster relationships with all our community stakeholders and also connect with the people of Hyderabad.”
