Pahelwan accused of attacking Akbaruddin Owaisi, dies

Hyderabad: Mohammed Pahelwan, the main accused in the attack on Chandrayangutta MLA Akbaruddin Owaisi in 2001 and was set free by the court in 2017, died on Tuesday. Mohammed Pahelwan alias Mohammed Bin Omer Yafai Pahelwan who was undergoing treatment at Yashoda Hospital’s Malakpet branch died of a heart attack in the wee hours of Tuesday.

His mortal remains were shifted to his residence at Barkas. Meanwhile, Hyderabad city police have beefed up security at his residence and in the sensitive locations in the surrounding areas.

Pahelwan and twelve others were accused in the attack on Akbaruddin that took place on April 30, 2011 at Barkas. Akbaruddin was taking out a Padayatra in the area. He was accompanied by party workers, Malakpet MLA Ahmed Bin Balala, the then Barkas Corporator Mansoor Bin Mohammed Awalgi. When the padayatra reached Peeli Darga at Barkas, an argument broke between Akberuddin and Younus Bin Omer Yafai, the owner of the house next to the dargah.

During the argument, Akbaruddin allegedly threatened that he would get them evicted as they had encroached into Government lands. While the argument was going on, the prime accused Mohammed Pahelwan along with his supporters came there on bikes carrying deadly weapons and attacked Akbaruddin. While Akbaruddin sustained stabbing injuries in his stomach and bullet injuries, Mohammed Jani, the personal security officer of MLA Balala, opened fire with his revolver and shot at the attackers.

The court convicted four persons in the case, while acquitting the main accused in the case Pahelwal, as the prosecution failed to prove charges against him.
