Parents protest at St Andrews School against fee hike

Hyderabad: Parents of hundreds of students staged a protest at the St. Andrews School, Bowenpally, against the sudden fee hike announced by the management on Tuesday.

The parents expressed their anger over the unanticipated increase of fees collected every academic year and alleged that the management is demanding a variety of sums in the aegis of the tuition fee.

The parents are demanding to bifurcate the tuition fee and divide it into different categories. ”While previously the management had segregated the fee, from the 2018-19 session, they have clubbed infrastructure fees, computer fees, and all the other fees under one tuition fee. We are ready to pay the tuition fee but are not able to afford the burden of other fees,” said Vijay Kumar, parent of one of the students.

Following the last meeting with the management on July 14, the parents came to the school to know about the decision taken regarding the splitting of the tuition fee into different categories.

As a result of the July 14 protest, the school management has asked until 21st July to simmer upon the issue, and agreed to continue online classes until the final decision is made.

The parents alleged that the police personnel tried to detain them even when they were staging a protest peacefully.

"We have gathered here in a large number to demand a reduction in the tuition fee. The management should either stop dividing the fee into two categories or reduce the tuition fee by 50 per cent,” Sharath Kumar demanded and faulted the school authorities for calling the police without speaking to the parents.
