Anantapur: Probably for the first time in Andhra Pradesh, an RTC Express bus was stolen from Dharmavaram bus depot in Anantapur district in Andhra Pradesh during the lunch hour on Friday as the drivers and conductors had taken a break.

Despite a hot chase by the RTC personnel, the accused, hailing from Bengaluru in neighbouring Karnataka, managed to flee with the vehicle for an hour. Later, he was caught, nearly 40 km away and the bus was intercepted near KIA Motors, India cars manufacturing unit , at Erramanchi.

The RTC officials informed the police who managed to apprehend the culprit, identified as 38- year-old Muzzammul Khan. The bus and the accused were brought to Dharmavaram police station.

Police investigation has revealed that Khan was in an inebriated condition when he was caught. Khan was a lorry driver by profession and he came to Andhra Pradesh a few days ago.

APSRTC Regional Manager Sumanth R. Adoni said the bus had gone to drop migrant labourers and returned to the depot during the lunch hour. The police said that Khan has stolen the bus with an intention for gain.
