Police vehicle mows down Pedestrian in Hyderabad

Hyderabad: A pedestrian, crossing the road, died after a spending police vehicle hit him at Uppal in Hyderabad. 35-year-old Chander, who was injured in the accident that occurred on Thursday morning, succumbed to injuries in the wee hours of Friday. The vehicle belongs to Kushaiguda police station and is allotted to the Detective Inspector of Kushaiguda. The official was on his way to the police station when the incident happened.

Chander Rao's relatives claimed that police had warned them to 'keep quiet about the case and not to approach media or others.' They were also assured of 'some settlement'. While the Telangana state police department is claiming road safety as their top priority, this incident has raised significant doubts about it.

Chander Rao, a resident of Karmanghat, was working at a Nursery in Ghatkesar. On Thursday morning, he travelled till Uppal X roads by a passenger vehicle. To go to Ghatkesar, he had to cross the road and take another vehicle. After crossing the median, he was standing by the median, waiting to cross to the other side.

Meanwhile, the vehicle TS09 PA 3618 was heading in the same direction. The driver of the vehicle lost control and hit Chander Rao. He sustained severe injuries and collapsed on the road. He was rushed to Gandhi hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries on Friday.

Rao, who is survived by his wife and a year old son, is the sole breadwinner for the family. His relatives are demanding justice for his wife and son from the police department and suitable compensation for their survival and his son's education.

Uppal police, under whose jurisdiction the incident happened, had registered a case of cause death due to rash and negligent driving against the vehicle driver and seized the vehicle. Further investigation is underway, said officials from Uppal Police station.
