Prakasam: In a horrifying incident, criminals murdered a woman and her one-year-old daughter and burnt their bodies near a field between Lingamgutla and Pernamitta in Prakasam of Andhra Pradesh.
Though the incident took place on Tuesday (November 3) night, it became known on November 4 after some commuters found the semi-burnt bodies and alerted the police. However, police are yet to establish the identity of the deceased. They are struggling to get any clue for further investigation into the incident.
They suspect that the woman is around 25 years of age. The preliminary investigation has revealed that the perpetrators beat the woman and her daughter to death with a stone. It was evident from the head injuries on the victims.
A senior police officer, on condition of anonymity, said that the miscreant burnt the bodies by pouring petrol to hide the identity of the victims to escape from the crime. The cops suspect that the perpetrators might be someone familiar to the victim. The police also found an empty liquor bottle near the crime spot.
“Once we establish the identity of the deceased, we will investigate the case from various angles and solve the mystery behind the double murder,” the police said. Prakasam Superintendent of Police Siddharth Kaushal has formed a special team to solve the case.
Officials are also going through missing people’s data in and around Prakasam to find any lead in the crime. The police shifted the semi-burnt bodies to a government hospital for post mortem.
The leaders and activists of various women’s organisations on Wednesday staged a protest demanding police to seize the accused in the case as soon as possible. They also demanded to increase the police patrolling during the night to deter such crimes.
