The awards are given away by the International Fact-Checking Network (IFCN), an organization that monitors trends in fact-checking, provides training resources, and hosts a yearly conference on fact-checking called Global Fact. This fact-checking conference is conducted in June every year.
Recently, NewsMeter acquired the status of International Fact-Checking Network Signatory. The Hyderabad-based digital news portal with an independent fact-check unit has joined the club of 77 IFCN verified fact-checking websites, including 13 from India.
NewsMeter is the second IFCN-verified fact-checking website among the two Telugu-speaking states.
On June 22 (Monday), Global Fact-7 is going to be conducted virtually for the first time in history for the fact-checking community.
As part of the conference, IFCN gives Global Fact awards to most bizarre, most creative and best correction categories to the signatories, which has been in practice for the last two years.
NewsMeter was shortlisted in the most bizarre fact check category.
