Police probe finds top official behind Rashmika comments

Hyderabad: Police have arrested the general manager of the district labour department for masquerading as the collector of Jagtial and using his Twitter handle for personal use.

Identified as Gangadhar Srinivas, he had been using the collector@jagtial handle since 2018 without authorization.

Srinivas, however, got exposed when he posted a comment on actress Rashmika Mandanna’s picture using collector’s Twitter handle. "Chinchav Po Radhmika," reads the comment.

The comment created quite a stir on the micro-blogging site with Twitterati slamming the collector for lowering the prestige of his office. Drawing flak, collector of Jagtial clarified that he neither has a Twitter account nor did he comment on the picture.

Later the collector formally lodged a complaint with the police. Cops immediately swung into action and registered a case.

After tracking the IP address, they found the general manager of the district labour department, Gangadhar Srinivas, was behind the mischief. Police sources said he was the one who commented on actress’ picture.

Police sources said Srinivas has confessed to the crime. Police have arrested the officer and seized the mobile phone which was used for posting the comment.

Preliminary investigation reveals that Srinivas had created a Twitter account for official use when he was serving as the e-management nodal officer during 2018 assembly polls. Since then he has been using the account.
