Tollywood star Mohan Babu to join BJP?

Hyderabad: The meeting of Tollywood Star Mohan Babu with BJP President and Union Home Minister Amit Shah this evening at Delhi, has raised the eyebrows of many in Andhra Pradesh.

Mohan Babu, who had a 34- minute- long meeting with the Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Manchu Vishnu, Veronika, and Manchu Lakshmi were also present during the meeting.

Mohan Babu was a member of the Rajya Sabha from TDP from 1995 to 2000. Having strong associations with the late Chief Minister N T Rama Rao, Mohan Babu had distanced himself from politics for some time and maintained his distance with all the political parties. He was not on good terms with Chandrababu Naidu for several years, and he has family associations with Dr Y S Rajasekhar Reddy.

During 2019 elections, he has campaigned for YSRCP and supported Jagan Mohan Reddy. It is learnt that he had anticipated the position of the Chairman of AP Film Development Corporation, but it was offered to Vijaychander. Mohan Babu had reportedly expressed his dissatisfaction over the same, during a conversation with YSRCP leaders.

Mohan Babu, who is a native of Chittoor district, had also thought that Jagan Mohan Reddy would offer him TTD Chairman position. However, Y V Subba Reddy secured that chance and, later, Mohan Babu tried for Rajya Sabha from YSRCP, as four members from AP are going to retire in March of this year. However, there has been no positive response from YSRCP Chief over the same proposal and hence, Mohan Babu and his family have considered BJP.

The decision of Mohan Babu, to join BJP, became a hot topic in the political corridors because he is the only star from Tollywood, who supported YSRCP, in 2019. His entry into BJP is certainly a plus point to the Saffron party in Andhra, sources said. His appointment with Narendra Modi was fixed by Sujana Chowdary, BJP’s Rajya Sabha member from AP.
